Our Story
Free-range ice cream
Homegrown Beginnings
Bold Spoon began in St. Louis’ backyard. More precisely, the backyard of Rachel Burns. With mint from her garden, she made a batch of mint ice cream to cap off a hot summer day. This first-time experience became a reoccurring one. For the next two years, garden mint became a household staple for Burns’ family and friends.
Positive feedback fed her desire to explore and tinker with new flavors and ingredients. Original recipes emerged from experimentation, trial, error, and the food-science knowledge of her brother, Brad, who happens to be a chef.
Her trusted taste testers, appropriately named “The Spoons,” couldn’t get enough. And the samples her son brought to college were met with 2 AM knocks at his door. This craze for her creations across both demographics provided the confidence to begin Bold Spoon Creamery.

A True Farm-to-Bowl Experience
With freshly harvested ingredients a staple of her recipes, it became clear Burns would need more than a backyard to meet demand. In 2021, operations moved to Bold Spoon Farm in Park Hills, Missouri. It’s there you’ll find garden beds resting right outside the Bold Spoon kitchen—ready to supply the fruits and herbs for your favorite flavors.
